A Story Close to Home: Our Own Jeanie’s Family History

This Remembrance Day, we are honoured to feature one of our own Aurora York Central PROBUS members, Jeanie. She has written a book about her father’s Second World War experience in the Royal Canadian Air Force and as a prisoner of war, a deeply personal connection to the history we remember on this day.

Jeanie was born and raised in the Napanee area, as were her father and at least three generations before him. After retiring in 2019, she found the opportunity to fulfill a promise to herself to write her father’s story. In April, she travelled to the Netherlands with her two daughters and “walked in her father’s footsteps.”

Jeanie moved to Aurora in late 2024 and joined Aurora York Central PROBUS in 2025. We are proud to recognize a fellow club member whose family story brings a personal dimension to Remembrance Day.
