SUMMARY:Jeanie Quirt-Brown - A Story Close To Home
DESCRIPTION:A Story Close to Home: Our Own Jeanie’s Family History\nThis Remembrance Day\, we are honoured to feature one of our own Aurora York Central PROBUS members\, Jeanie. She has written a book about her father’s Second World War experience in the Royal Canadian Air Force and as a prisoner of war\, a deeply personal connection to the history we remember on this day. \nJeanie was born and raised in the Napanee area\, as were her father and at least three generations before him. After retiring in 2019\, she found the opportunity to fulfill a promise to herself to write her father’s story. In April\, she travelled to the Netherlands with her two daughters and “walked in her father’s footsteps.” \nJeanie moved to Aurora in late 2024 and joined Aurora York Central PROBUS in 2025. We are proud to recognize a fellow club member whose family story brings a personal dimension to Remembrance Day. \n\n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \n

SUMMARY:Lianne Harris - The Silk Road
DESCRIPTION:Lianne was a former Social Studies/History Resource Specialist Consultant with the Toronto District School Board and curriculum advisor for Upper Canada College\, having taught over 100\,000 teachers and students.  Some of her initiatives have been indexing the Freedman Bureau Records for the Smithsonian Institute in Washington\, D.C.\, and curriculum development and business start-ups in India.  In 2003\, she was selected by W.O.M.A.D. as one of Toronto’s Women of Influence and in 2009 was invited to be a contributing author of the Canadian best-seller business/self-help book\, ‘The Power of Women United’.  Appearing on TV and being interviewed on the radio many times\, she is always happy to have a live or virtual audience. \n  \nWe are pleased to welcome back Leanne Harris who entertained us with her presentation on Rogues & Rebels and look forward to her exciting tale of … \nThe Silk Road \nCome take a 7000-mile trek in time and follow the Silk Road – the ancient superhighway connecting Asia to Europe. Along this fabled route we trudge our camel caravan from market to market\, acquainting ourselves with unfamiliar peoples and customs\, strange spices\, luxurious goods\, and unforgettable stories. \n \n
